Score Calculation
CUET UG 2026 Marking Scheme & How Your Score Is Calculated
CUET UG uses a straightforward objective marking scheme. Here is how NTA calculates your raw score — which is then normalised to produce your final NTA Score.
| Answer Type | Marks Awarded | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| ✅ Correct Answer | +5 marks | Positive |
| ❌ Wrong Answer | −1 mark | Negative |
| ⬜ Unattempted | 0 marks | No Penalty |
| 🗑️ Dropped Question | +5 marks (if attempted) | Full Credit |
Formula: CUET Score = (5 × Correct Answers) − (1 × Wrong Answers)
Each subject paper has 50 compulsory questions for a maximum of 250 marks per subject. NTA dropped 7 questions from the final answer key after reviewing candidate objections — all candidates who attempted those questions received full marks automatically.
Pro Tip: Your Scorecard Shows Normalised Score, Not Raw Score Alone
Universities use the NTA Normalised Score (not raw marks) to prepare merit lists. Two candidates with the same raw marks in different shifts can have slightly different NTA Scores after normalisation. This is by design — it ensures fairness across all sessions.
Understand Your Score
How Does CUET UG Normalisation Work?
Since CUET is conducted across multiple shifts and days, each session may have a slightly different difficulty level. NTA uses the Equipercentile Method to ensure every candidate is evaluated on a level playing field.
-
1
Raw Scores Collected Per Session
NTA collects all candidates' raw marks within the same shift and subject combination.
-
2
Percentile Calculated Within Each Shift
Your percentile tells how many candidates in your specific shift scored equal to or below you. This accounts for varying difficulty across sessions.
-
3
Equi-Percentile Conversion Across Sessions
These percentiles are then equated across all sessions for the same subject. Scores from easier sessions are adjusted slightly downward; scores from tougher sessions are adjusted slightly upward.
-
4
Final NTA Score Published
The resulting normalised score is your official NTA Score — this is what universities use for merit lists, not your raw marks.
Important: Normalisation Can Slightly Raise or Lower Your Score
If your shift was easier than others, your normalised score may be marginally lower than your raw score. If your shift was harder, it may be higher. This is normal and intended — focus on your percentile, not just the raw marks, when assessing your admission chances.
Score Benchmarking
What Is a Good Score in CUET UG 2026?
There is no official "passing marks" in CUET UG. Admission is entirely based on university-specific cutoffs. However, here is how your score stacks up in the competitive landscape of 2026.
| Score Range (3 subjects / 750) | Approx. Percentile | Likely Admission Prospects |
|---|---|---|
| 700–750 | 98–99.9 percentile | DU Top Colleges (SRCC, Hindu, LSR), JNU |
| 650–700 | 94–98 percentile | DU Mid Colleges, BHU, Allahabad Univ |
| 550–650 | 85–94 percentile | State Universities, AMU, Jamia (selected) |
| 400–550 | 65–85 percentile | Decent state & private CUET colleges |
| Below 400 | Below 65 percentile | Low-demand programmes, private colleges |
*For 5 subjects (max 1250 marks): a score of 800+ (general) is considered competitive. DU's premium courses require 940+ out of 1000 in a 4-subject combination. These are approximations based on 2025 trends and may vary in 2026.
University-Wise Cutoffs
CUET UG 2026 Expected Cutoffs — DU, JNU, BHU & More
NTA does not release a centralised cutoff. Each participating university publishes its own course-wise and category-wise merit list. The figures below are expected ranges based on 2025 official data and expert analysis.
| University Type | Expected Score Range (per subject) | Popular Courses |
|---|---|---|
| Premier Central (DU, JNU, BHU) | 200–250 / 250 per subject | BA Economics, BCom Hons, BSc CS |
| Mid-Tier Central (HCU, AMU) | 170–190 / 250 per subject | Mass Communication, Law, History |
| State Universities | 150–170 / 250 per subject | BA, BCom, BSc general streams |
| Private Participating Colleges | 120–150 / 250 per subject | Management, Education, Media |
⚠️ These are expected cutoffs based on 2025 official data and expert projections. Actual cutoffs for CUET UG 2026 will be released by universities on their official portals after counselling rounds conclude. Always refer to the official university website for confirmed figures.
Action Plan
What to Do Right Now After the CUET UG 2026 Result
NTA's job is done. Your result is out. Now the real work of securing admission begins. Here is your step-by-step action plan — every hour counts.
-
1
Download and Save Your Scorecard (Do This First)
Go to cuet.nta.nic.in, log in, and download your scorecard PDF immediately. Save multiple copies. You will need this at every stage of the admission process.
-
2
Cross-Verify All Details on the Scorecard
Check your name, application number, category, and subject-wise scores for accuracy. If anything is wrong, contact NTA's helpdesk without delay.
-
3
Shortlist Your Target Universities and Courses
Using your normalised score and percentile, identify which universities and courses you are realistically eligible for. Apply to 5–8 universities minimum — don't keep your eggs in one basket. There is no centralised CUET counselling.
-
4
Register on Each University's Admission Portal Separately
Visit each university's official website. For DU: admission.uod.ac.in (CSAS Phase 2). For BHU: bhuonline.in. For JNU: jnuee.jnu.ac.in. Register early — portals open within days of result declaration.
-
5
Gather All Required Documents Now
Pull together your Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category certificates, ID proof, and passport photos — see our complete checklist in Section 9 below.
-
6
Monitor University Merit Lists Actively
Universities will start releasing merit lists from mid-July 2026. Set alerts on their websites. Missing the first round deadline at a university usually means losing that seat permanently.
Key Rule: Apply to Multiple Universities
Unlike JEE or NEET, there is no single centralised CUET counselling. Each university runs its own process independently. Apply to as many as possible — registrations typically cost ₹250–500 per university, a small price to keep your options open.

Admission Process
CUET UG 2026 Counselling & Admission — How It Works
NTA only declares the result. Every subsequent step — merit list, seat allotment, and fee payment — is handled independently by each participating university.
-
A
Online Registration on University Portal
Create an account on the university's admission portal using your CUET application number and date of birth. Personal and academic details may be auto-fetched from NTA's database.
-
B
Fill Course and College Preferences
Select your preferred courses and — where applicable — colleges in order of preference. For DU, this happens via the CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) portal.
-
C
Upload Documents and Pay Registration Fee
Upload scanned copies of all required documents and pay the non-refundable registration fee via UPI, net banking, or debit/credit card.
-
D
Merit List & Seat Allotment
The university releases merit lists based on CUET normalised scores and category. Multiple rounds are typically conducted. If you appear on the list, you will be allotted a seat.
-
E
Seat Acceptance, Document Verification & Fee Payment
Accept your allotted seat online, pay the admission fee, and report for document verification — either physically or online depending on the institution. Missing this deadline cancels your allotment.
-
F
Spot Round (If Applicable)
If seats remain vacant after regular rounds, a final Spot Round is typically held in September 2026. Registrations happen on the day itself. If you missed earlier rounds, monitor this actively.
Class 12 Marks Are NOT Used for Seat Allocation
Central universities like DU, BHU, and JNU use only your CUET UG 2026 normalised score for merit lists. Your Class 12 percentage is required only for document verification — to confirm basic eligibility, not to determine your rank.
Be Prepared
Documents Checklist for CUET UG 2026 Counselling
